PHONE SOLICITATIONS: Besides the pure annoyance of the solicitations that come by mail you have phone calls to contend with! The National DO-NOT-CALL list can greatly reduce the calls but you should also opt out with the Direct Marketing Association. Legitimate company with cross reference both lists on a regular basis. Remember some organizations are exempt so you will still get some calls! DIRECT MAIL: In your mailbox, next to you credit offers are your general junk mails. This can be greatly reduced as well by opting out with the Direct Marketing Association. EMAIL: You need to guard your email address like your credit card #! SPAM is a fact of life and once you start getting it it tends to multiply. You should consider a separate email address for signing up on questionable sites (free web mail is great for this).
There is a solution! Well at least a partial one. If you follow the steps outlined below you will find that you can reduce you junk mail, telemarketing calls and email significantly. 1. Call 888 5OPT OUT (888 567 8688) to remove your name from prescreened credit or insurance offer mailing lists from Experian, Innovis, TransUnion and Equifax by This will remove you from the credit based offers only. You will be given a choice to opt out for two years or permanently. If you elect to opt out permanently, you will be mailed a Notice of Election to Opt Out Permanently, which you must sign and return to activate your permanent opt-out. 2. Visit the Direct Marketing Association (DMA) opt-out info page to be removed form mail lists, phone / telemarketing lists and email lists. You must complete forms for each separately. The Direct Marketing Association tracks consumers who prefer not to receive mail or telephone or email solicitations. Legitimate marketing companies "clean" their list with information the DMA members and remove those consumers from their own mailing lists. 3. The National Do Not Call Registry gives you a choice about whether to receive telemarketing calls at home. Most telemarketers should not call your number once it has been on the registry for three months. If they do, you can file a complaint at this Website. You can register your home or mobile phone for free. Your registration will be effective for five years. 4. Online, do not sign up for ANYTHING that you do not know as a trusted source. Major, well-know companies will protect your email and allow you to opt-out. WARNING! Opt-out links from many SPAM senders (illegitimate companies, fake senders, etc) are actually used to confirm you email address.
